Deworming Campaign Kicks Off in Damoh

Damoh | October 6, 2026 | The formal launch of the deworming campaign under the National Deworming Day initiative took place in Damoh district on Thursday at JP B Shaskiya Kanya Uchchattar Madhyamik Vidyalaya. The primary objective of this campaign is to protect children aged one to nineteen years from intestinal worm infections, which adversely affect their physical and mental development, as well as their nutritional status.

The campaign commenced in the presence of Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Rakesh Rai, District Health Officer Dr. Rita Chatterjee, and Civil Surgeon Dr. Prahlad Patel. These officials personally administered Albendazole tablets to students in the primary classes, raising health awareness among the children. The medication was also distributed at the District Hospital's vaccination parlor.

Focus on Children's Better Health

Dr. Rakesh Rai highlighted that intestinal worms are a significant cause of anemia (blood deficiency) in children. Regular intake of deworming medicine helps prevent anemia and improves children's learning abilities, ensuring their overall development. He emphasized the campaign's role in fostering better mental and physical development among children.

Importance of Hygiene and Awareness

District Health Officer Dr. Rita Chatterjee appealed to parents and teachers to inspire children towards hygiene. She advised children to keep their nails short, drink clean water, and wash their hands with soap after using the toilet. Dr. Chatterjee also noted that if children experience mild discomfort after taking the medication, there is no need to panic.

Mop-Up Day for Unreached Children

Officials instructed teachers from all schools, hostels, and Anganwadi centers to educate parents about the campaign's importance, ensuring no child is left out from receiving the medication. A special arrangement has been made for a 'Mop-up Day' on October 9 for children who could not receive the medicine for any reason. On this day, they will be administered the Albendazole dose.

The aim of this campaign is to provide children with a healthy life by protecting them from worm infections, enabling them to participate in their daily activities with full energy.
