Devotees Chant 'Har-Har Mahadev' on Second Monday of Sawan, Kanwariyas Visit Shiva Shrines

Shiva Devotion Peaks on Second Sawan Monday

A wave of Shiva devotion swept across Farrukhabad district on the second Monday of the Sawan month. From early morning, major Shiva temples witnessed an immense influx of devotees performing elaborate rituals and offering 'Jal Abhishek' (water libation) to Lord Shiva. Along with the sacred water, devotees offered bhang, dhatura, and belpatra, praying for prosperity and well-being.

The temple premises resonated with the continuous chants of 'Har-Har Mahadev' and 'Bam-Bam Bhole' throughout the day. The arrival of Kanwariyas (devotees carrying holy water) at Panchal Ghat began late the previous night. After bathing in the Ganga, they filled their urns with its holy water and set off towards various Shiva shrines including Gola Gokrannath, Puthri Mahadev, Choumukhi Mahadev in Shamsabad, Rameshwar Mahadev, and Kampil.

Kanwariyas Embark on Pilgrimage with Enthusiasm

Enthusiasm was palpable among the Kanwariya processions, which included women and children. The spirited chants of the Kanwariyas, often accompanied by DJ music, further amplified the devotional atmosphere.

Massive Turnout at Major Shiva Temples

In Farrukhabad city, prominent Shiva temples like the State Pandeshwar Nath Temple on Railway Road, Kotwalevar Mahadev in Ghumana, Dwadash Jyotirlinga Temple in Purana Kotha Parcha, Angoori Bagh Mahakal Temple, Patthar Wali Mathiya at Ganga Darwaza, and Mote Mahadev Temple in Nawalpur saw long queues of devotees from early morning.

Similarly, in Fatehgarh, the Shiv Shakti Mahakal Temple in Bijadharpur near the Central Jail, and the Bhooteshwar Mahadev Temple in Awas Vikas, along with other Shiva temples, witnessed devotees offering prayers and seeking blessings from Lord Shiva. Many locations organized 'Bhandaras' (community feasts) after offering 'Bhog' (food offerings) to Lord Shiva, distributing prasad to the devotees, contributing to a day-long religious and devotional ambiance across the region.

Police Ensure Security at Panchal Ghat

In response to the large crowds of Kanwariyas and devotees, the police administration at Panchal Ghat implemented special arrangements to ensure smooth security and traffic management. Police personnel were deployed, and extra vigilance was maintained for the safety of Kanwariyas undertaking Ganga snan (holy dip in the Ganga).

Kanwariyas collected water from the Ganga at locations such as Durvasa Rishi Ashram, Otla Mahadev, and Nanhe Pandit Ghat near Panchal Ghat before proceeding to their respective Shiva shrines. The district administration and police kept a close watch on security and traffic arrangements to ensure the peaceful conclusion of the Kanwar Yatra and prevent any untoward incidents.
