Demand to Halt Acquisition of 4500 Hectares of Fertile Land, Letter Sent to CM

Farrukhabad | August 12, 2026 | The issue of acquiring approximately 4,500 hectares of fertile agricultural land for an ambitious industrial corridor project in Farrukhabad district has now reached the Chief Minister's public grievance cell.

Farmer leaders and advocates have vehemently demanded that the project be reconsidered and that the multi-crop, irrigated, and fertile land be saved from acquisition. In this regard, farmer leader and advocate Ashok Katiyar submitted a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, appealing to save the substantial agricultural land, orchards, and the primary source of livelihood for farmers within the area identified for the project.

The letter stated that this land is extremely important not only for farmers but also from the perspectives of food security and the environment. While acknowledging the necessity of industrial development, Katiyar suggested that alternative, less fertile or barren land should be chosen instead of highly fertile land.

Scope of Proposed Project and Farmers' Concerns

According to information, the proposed industrial corridor includes land from over a dozen villages in the Kayamganj tehsil area, including Asgarpur, Nagla Naan, Amilaiya Ashanand, Bairampur, Chilsara, and Bachlaiya. Large-scale agricultural activities are carried out in these rural areas, and the possibility of land acquisition has created deep concern among farmers regarding their land and livelihood.

Reiterating his demand, Ashok Katiyar stated that the land identified for the project should be prioritized based on unirrigated, barren, infertile, or less fertile land. This would allow the industrial development plan to move forward while also safeguarding the farmers' precious fertile land.

Demand for Compliance with Land Acquisition Law

The farmer leader also raised a demand in his letter to ensure full compliance with the provisions of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. He emphasized that all provisions related to farmers' statutory rights, fair compensation, rehabilitation, and resettlement must be strictly followed in the land acquisition process, with no oversight whatsoever.

Furthermore, a request was made for a high-level inquiry into the role of the concerned officials in identifying multi-crop and fertile land, and for immediate necessary steps to be taken to save farmers from unnecessary mental distress.

Advocating for Balanced Industrial Development

Mentioning Farrukhabad's significant position in potato production in the state, Ashok Katiyar stated that if an industrial development plan is prepared while protecting agricultural land, a healthy balance can be established in the interests of both farmers' livelihoods and the district's industrial development.

He appealed to the Chief Minister to reconsider the proposed industrial corridor project, keeping public interest, food security, environmental protection, and farmers' interests paramount, and to make a positive and far-reaching decision.
