Highway Extension Demand to Gorakhpur

Former Member of Parliament Daddan Mishra met with the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to advocate for the extension of the Barabanki-Bahraich four-lane highway. The proposed extension would stretch through Shravasti, Balrampur, and Siddharthnagar, ultimately reaching Gorakhpur.

Mishra submitted a letter to the Union Minister, highlighting the region's significant religious, tourist, and economic importance. He emphasized that this expansion is expected to directly benefit several districts in Purvanchal, fostering local employment and business opportunities.

Economic and Religious Significance

In his letter, former MP Mishra stressed that extending the Barabanki-Bahraich four-lane highway to connect Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, and finally Gorakhpur would accelerate the development of Purvanchal. He noted that Shravasti, the place of Lord Buddha's penance, is a crucial destination for Buddhist followers worldwide.

Similarly, the renowned Devi Patan temple in Balrampur is a major center of faith for pilgrims. Establishing better road connectivity to these prominent religious sites can usher in a new era for tourism.

Improved Connectivity and Trade

The proposed highway extension will not only connect Shravasti and Balrampur but also link districts like Siddharthnagar and Gorakhpur to a superior road network. This will streamline travel and provide a significant boost to agriculture, trade, and other economic activities.

Furthermore, this route could serve as a vital trade and transit corridor between India and Nepal, improving access to the Rupaidiha Land Port.

Positive Response from Union Minister

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari responded positively to the demand and has issued the necessary directives to the concerned officials. This project, already approved as a 4-lane access-controlled greenfield highway from Barabanki to Bahraich for 101.515 km under National Highway-927 at a cost of ₹6,969.04 crore on a Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM), now gains significant momentum with the prospect of expansion.

The project aims to provide seamless connectivity to economic, social, and logistics hubs.
