David Beckham Visits Residential School in Visakhapatnam Under UNESCO’s Education for All Initiative

Former footballer and global icon David Beckham visited the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Andhra Pradesh Backward Classes Welfare Residential School (MJPAPBCWREIS) in Kothavalasa, Visakhapatnam, on Wednesday as part of UNESCO’s global Education for All initiative.

A reel shared on Instagram documented Beckham’s interaction with students as he participated in classroom activities, sports sessions, and environmental projects during his four-hour visit.

According to a report, the 50-year-old began his tour by sitting in on a project-based learning (PBL) session, where students showcased problem-solving, teamwork and analytical skills. He later explored a student-led exhibition featuring projects across subjects including Mathematics and Science.

Beckham also joined a tree-planting activity, where students demonstrated how each sapling is digitally scanned and labelled for monitoring its growth and environmental impact. At the school library, he participated in a reading circle, discussing books that inspire young learners.

The visit ended with Beckham joining students in a one-touch football drill, drawing loud cheers from the excited school community.

In the Instagram reel, Beckham said:
“As you can see, I’m back in India, and today I’m going back to school. So the girls greeted me with a welcome dance, made musical instruments, planted trees, and got involved with their football games too. It’s been a really, really good day.”

This visit marks Beckham’s return to India after his humanitarian tour in November 2023, when he visited Gujarat as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. During that trip, he interacted with adolescent girls enrolled in programmes focused on preventing child marriage, expanding educational access and strengthening leadership opportunities. He also attended the ICC World Cup 2023 semifinal in Mumbai, interacting with cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.
