Damoh Police Intensify Campaign Against Illicit Liquor Operations

Damoh | September 6, 2026 - The Damoh district police in Madhya Pradesh have initiated a comprehensive operation to completely curb the manufacturing, sale, and transportation of illicit liquor. This intensive campaign has seen police teams across various police stations conduct widespread raids, seizing a significant quantity of illegal raw and country-made liquor.

In addition to the seizures, hundreds of liters of fermented mahua (a type of fruit) and stills used for liquor production were destroyed on-site. Cases have been registered against the involved accused under the Excise Act. The primary objective of this special campaign is to control the illegal drug trade within the district.

Widespread Raids Across Multiple Police Stations

Under the directives of the Superintendent of Police, all Station House Officers were ordered to take strict action against illicit liquor traders based on informant tips and suo motu cognizance in their respective areas. In line with these orders, police teams from Thana Kotwali, Thana Patharia, Thana Raneh, Thana Madia Do, and Thana Patera simultaneously raided multiple locations, causing panic among illicit liquor manufacturers and sellers.

Station-wise Action Details

Thana Kotwali

Led by CSP Shri H.R. Pandey, the Kotwali police raided an area behind the Industry Department in Kuchbandia Mohalla (Civil Ward 02). Approximately 45 liters of illegal raw liquor were seized. Additionally, 4 to 5 operational stills used for liquor production and about 150 liters of fermented mahua were systematically destroyed.

Thana Patharia

The Patharia police conducted effective operations at various locations to prevent the manufacturing and sale of illicit liquor. During these actions, cases were registered against a total of 13 accused under the Excise Act. The police confiscated 21 liters of illegal raw liquor and approximately 15 liters of country liquor. Furthermore, approximately 350 liters of fermented mahua found at the scene were destroyed.

Thana Raneh

The Raneh police took action against 3 female accused involved in the manufacturing and sale of illicit raw liquor in the village of Bijwar. Additionally, 22 quarters of illicit liquor were seized from Dhaniram Rajput, a resident of Chhevla Dubey. Another 99 quarters of plain and spiced country liquor were confiscated from an unknown accused. The police took action against the accused under the Excise Act and issued strict warnings against future involvement in liquor production or sale. In this operation, 15 liters of raw liquor, 121 quarters of country liquor were seized, and approximately 150 kg of fermented mahua was destroyed. The arrested accused include Pooja wife of Bhujwal Bundela, Geeta wife of Sanat Bundela, Munni Raja wife of Hariprasad Bundela (all residents of village Bijwar), and Dhaniram Rajput of Chhevla Dubey.

Thana Madia Do

The Madia Do police team apprehended 4 female accused during raids on illegal liquor dens in village Madantor. Cases have been registered against all of them under the Excise Act, and strict warnings have been issued. During the operation, 30 liters of raw liquor were seized, and approximately 100 kg of fermented mahua was destroyed. The apprehended women include Sona Bai wife of Mannat Banjara, Bhuri Bai wife of Gunda Banjara, Dharna Bai wife of Gumna Banjara, and Khemi Bai wife of Rama Banjara (all residents of village Madantor).

Thana Patera

The Patera police systematically raided various villages in the area, including Kakran, Kota, and Barkheda Base, apprehending 6 accused involved in the illicit liquor trade. Cases have been registered against them under the Excise Act. The police confiscated a total of 24 liters of raw liquor and 8 liters of plain country liquor. Alongside this, approximately 60 kg of fermented mahua was destroyed. The accused include Anand Rani (resident of Kakran), Tikaram Gandharv (resident of Kakran), Mukesh alias Teji Lodhi (resident of Barkheda Base), and Savitri Bai (resident of Kota).

Continued Campaign Against Illicit Liquor

The Damoh police will continue to rigorously pursue this campaign against the manufacturing, storage, and sale of illicit liquor. The police administration aims to make the district entirely free from illegal liquor, ensuring public safety and crime control. Senior police officials have instructed all Station House Officers to conduct regular patrols and surprise raids, ensuring strict legal action against those involved in the illicit liquor business.
