Major Action Against Illegal Liquor Trade in Damoh
Damoh | September 8, 2026 - Following a stern directive from Collector Pratap Narayan Yadav, the administration in Damoh district has taken significant action against the illegal liquor trade. Acting swiftly on information about illicit liquor being brought from Baleh village in Rahli, a joint team raided several locations and seized a large volume of suspected illicit liquor.
Collector Yadav has emphasized that the administration is fully alert and continuously monitoring the illegal liquor trade. The operation was initiated after an individual was hospitalized due to deteriorating health. Upon learning that the person had obtained liquor from Baleh village, Collector Yadav immediately ordered action.
Joint Team Formed and Raids Conducted
A joint team, led by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Excise Officer, Tehsildar, and Superintendent of Police, was dispatched to suspected areas. The team conducted raids at various locations, successfully seizing the illicit liquor.
The Collector assured that the seized liquor batches will be sent to the laboratory. A decision regarding permission for their sale will only be made after the laboratory reports are received. This process underscores the commitment to ensuring the safety and authenticity of any permitted liquor sales.
Strict Vigilance Against Illicit Liquor
Collector Yadav stressed that the illegal liquor trade will not be tolerated in the district. He highlighted previous actions taken based on complaints, including fines totaling Rs 8 lakh against approximately 12 liquor shops. Additionally, 6 shops were suspended and the license of one shop was revoked.
These prior actions were prompted by complaints concerning the sale of illicit liquor, operations from unauthorized locations, and overcharging for liquor. The administration attributes the current controlled situation in the district to these timely interventions. Collector Yadav indicated that no one involved in the illegal liquor trade will be spared, and similar actions will continue in the future.
