Dalit Man Beaten to Death in Bhind Over Monetary Dispute, Tension Erupts Between Villages

A 35-year-old Dalit man was allegedly beaten to death in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district on Saturday evening after a dispute over petty financial matters turned violent, leading to communal tension between two neighbouring villages.

The victim, identified as Rudra Pratap Singh Jatav, a resident of Raipura village, was attacked by a group of men from Raniya village around 6:30 pm within the Daboh police station limits, approximately 65 km from the district headquarters.

According to police, Jatav had a long-standing feud with the accused over small monetary transactions and verbal altercations. “They had fights in the past too. The accused belong to the Kaurav community and operate a shop in the village. On Saturday, an argument escalated into a violent assault, leading to the fatal attack,” said Additional SP Bhind Sanjeev Kumar Pathak.

Jatav was initially taken to a local hospital and later referred to Gwalior for advanced treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries en route.

News of his death sparked outrage in Raipura, with villagers vandalising a house belonging to one of the accused and setting several parked vehicles on fire. Police personnel were rushed to the spot to prevent further escalation.

“The situation has been brought under control, and efforts are on to arrest the accused. So far, no complaints have been received from the other side regarding the vandalism,” Pathak added.

Authorities have stepped up patrolling in both villages to prevent further violence, while the body was handed over to the family after post-mortem. Police said a case of murder and rioting has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
