Constable Varsha Patel Hoists Tricolour on Mount Elbrus, Becomes First Woman Constable to Conquer Europe's Highest Peak

Tricolour Flies High on Europe's Summit

Constable Varsha Patel of the Madhya Pradesh Police Department successfully climbed Mount Elbrus (18,510 ft/5,642 meters), Europe's highest peak, on August 21, 2026. She hoisted the Indian tricolour and the flag of the Madhya Pradesh Police on the summit, bringing pride to her state and the nation.

A Triumph Against Adversity

Constable Patel, who is posted in Jabalpur, achieved this remarkable feat amidst harsh cold, strong winds, and adverse weather conditions. This accomplishment has significantly enhanced the prestige of the state and the country.

Director General of Police Kailash Makwana congratulated Varsha Patel for her adventurous achievement, stating, "This is a moment of immense pride for the entire police department." He lauded Patel's courage, discipline, and unwavering determination, calling her an inspiration not only to the women of Madhya Pradesh Police but also to women across the state and the country.

He further added that Patel's achievement has inspired the female members of the police force and the daughters of the state.

Challenging Expedition and Summit Victory

The Mount Elbrus expedition commenced on August 11, 2026. Throughout the journey, the team encountered numerous adverse conditions, including constantly changing weather, severe winds, and extreme cold. After waiting for favourable weather for several days, the ascent to the summit began on August 20 and 21 as conditions improved.

Despite the biting cold and fierce winds in Russia, Varsha Patel faced all obstacles with resilience. She reached the summit of Mount Elbrus at 9:07 AM on August 21, marking her victory over the challenging peak.

Childhood Passion and Previous Accomplishments

Varsha Patel has harboured a deep interest in sports and mountaineering since childhood. She is a national-level baseball player and has won over 10 national medals in the sport. This is her second major mountaineering achievement.

In 2024, she made history by becoming the first woman constable from Madhya Pradesh Police to conquer Mount Kosciuszko, the highest peak in Australia. Ms. Patel's triumph on Mount Elbrus stands as an inspiring symbol of women's power, athletic talent, discipline, courage, and indomitable resolve.
