Congress Convenes 'Lok Hunkar' in Lucknow to Discuss Constitution and Citizen Rights

Lucknow, September 1, 2026 – The Gandhi Bhawan Auditorium in Lucknow hosted a special public dialogue event today titled 'Lok Hunkar'. This platform aimed to strengthen commitments to public participation and societal change through dialogue with citizens from diverse backgrounds and communities.

Several senior Congress leaders were present, including Shri Rajendra Pal Gautam, Uttar Pradesh in-charge of the All India Congress Committee, State Congress President Shri Ajay Rai, MP Shri Rakesh Rathore, and MLA Shri Virendra Chaudhary.

Focus on Citizen Rights and Constitutional Protection

Addressing the gathering, State Congress in-charge Shri Rajendra Pal Gautam stated that the meaningful dialogue on crucial issues like citizens' rights, social justice, equality, and the protection of the constitution, with the resolve for public dialogue, participation, and change, will positively impact society.

He expressed gratitude to the program organizers, social workers, and civil society members present, emphasizing that these steps taken to strengthen the voice of the people and protect democratic values are a shared responsibility.

Pledge to Defend Constitution and Democracy

State Congress President Shri Ajay Rai declared that representatives from various regions and communities had gathered to pledge their commitment to defending democracy and the constitution. He stressed the urgent need for unity across all sections and communities in the country today to safeguard these institutions.

Accusing the state government of creating an atmosphere of fear, Shri Rai cited the suspicious death of a youth in Dataganj police station, Budaun, and custodial deaths as evidence of a serious law and order situation and a loss of faith in the government, law, and judiciary.

He further stated, “I met with the families and understood their pain, which reflects the current state of the province.” Reiterating his commitment, he added, “I am a soldier of Jananayak Shri Rahul Gandhi, and a Congress party worker will always be present to raise the voice of the victim.”

Allegations of Anti-Constitutional Actions Against BJP

MP Shri Rakesh Rathore accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of anti-constitutional acts. He highlighted an incident where, after a program organized by Congress National President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge in Haldwani, BJP supporters allegedly "purified" the stage. Instead of taking action against them, an FIR was filed against the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Shri Rahul Gandhi.

Shri Rathore termed this a Dalit-averse act by the BJP and an insult to the constitution drafted by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.
