Congress Alleges Police Misconduct Against Female Students in NEET Protests

Bhopal | July 24, 2026 - At a press conference held at the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters in Indira Bhawan, former national president of the Mahila Congress, Mrs. Shobha Oza, leveled serious allegations against the central government. These accusations stem from the ongoing student protests in Delhi concerning the NEET examination controversy, specifically highlighting alleged police violence and misconduct against female students.

Oza stated that the incident has brought shame upon the entire nation. She demanded the immediate dismissal of the police personnel involved and stern punitive action against them. She further alleged that instead of addressing the students' demands arising from the NEET exam paper leak, the government opted for force to suppress their outrage.

Allegations of Police Brutality and Abuse

Shobha Oza claimed that measures such as lathi-charges and tear gas were used against students protesting peacefully at Jantar Mantar, resulting in numerous male and female students sustaining injuries. She particularly highlighted that during the protests, several female students allegedly faced indecent behavior, molestation, and inappropriate conduct, causing them not only physical but also mental trauma.

Videos that have surfaced on social media reportedly depict the gravity of the situation. Oza insisted on a fair investigation to ensure those responsible are punished according to the law. She also accused the central government of removing the nameplates of police personnel to conceal their identities, making accountability difficult.

Questioning Government Campaigns and Ideology

During the press conference, Shobha Oza also questioned the credibility of the central government's campaigns like 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' (Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter) and 'Nari Shakti Vandan' (Salutation to Women Power). She argued that if female students cannot even protest peacefully for their demands and face such mistreatment, then these slogans become meaningless.

She criticized the ideology of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), asserting that their thinking towards women is not in line with the principles of equality and respect. Additionally, she raised the issue of the effective implementation of the women's reservation law, stating that the government needs to take concrete steps to increase women's political participation.

Demand for Investigation and Action

Shobha Oza demanded a fair and time-bound investigation into the incident in Delhi. She called for the identification and public disclosure of the guilty police personnel and insisted on strict legal action against all those responsible for any indecency or violence against the female students.
