Congress Stages Protest in Balrampur

The Cliff News | Balrampur | August 31, 2026: On the call of the All India National Congress Committee, the District Congress Committee, Balrampur, organized a sit-in protest at Ambedkar Chowk on Monday, led by District President Shivlal Kori. The demonstration primarily aimed to protest the alleged casteist “purification rituals” by BJP and RSS workers following a rally by Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge in Haldwani, and the FIR registered against leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi.

Concerns Over Constitutional Values and Social Justice

Congress leaders expressed concern over the alleged insult to constitutional values. They stated that the FIR registered against Rahul Gandhi by the Haldwani police raises serious questions regarding constitutional limits and the principles of social justice. The leaders believe that registering an FIR against an opposition leader, instead of taking action against those violating constitutional values, is a worrying development for the democratic process.

Congress Stance on Caste Discrimination

In his address, District President Shivlal Kori clarified that discrimination against any individual based on caste is against the fundamental spirit of the constitution. He emphasized the need for impartial and swift action in such sensitive matters. Kori described the FIR against Rahul Gandhi as a major question mark on democratic values and the concept of social justice.

Upholding Equality and Constitutional Rights

Former Block Pramukh and AICC member Raj Bahadur Yadav stated that the Constitution of India guarantees equality and dignity to every citizen. He affirmed that Congress has always been vocal against casteist mentality and that party workers will continue to struggle unitedly for the protection of social justice and constitutional rights.

Freedom of Dissent in Democracy

Former District President Anuj Singh stressed that dissenting voices should not be suppressed in a democracy; rather, accountability should be established for the government on issues of public interest. He strongly condemned the alleged “purification rituals” and stated that it is imperative to strongly oppose such mindsets to protect social harmony and the constitution.
