Congress Attacks BJP Government Over UCC and RSS Agenda

Bhopal | July 21, 2026 - On the second day of the monsoon session of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, the Congress Legislature Party accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of attempting to advance the agenda of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) through the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

The Congress claims the government is diverting public attention from genuine concerns and the state's severe problems by raising such issues. Led by the Leader of the Opposition, Shri Umang Singhar, Congress MLAs staged a symbolic protest on the Assembly premises, branding the BJP government a 'government of the dead'. They argue that the government remains completely inactive regarding the problems faced by the state's citizens.

Allegations of Government Inaction on Public Issues

Shri Singhar stated that farmers in the state are facing fertilizer shortages, unemployed youth are struggling to find jobs, crimes against women are continuously increasing, and various scams are being exposed. Despite these critical issues, the government maintains silence.

The Congress alleges that the BJP government is attempting to distract the public by fanning controversial issues like Hindu-Muslim disputes, UCC, and 'so-called Love Jihad'. Subjects of public interest such as education, health, employment, agriculture, and inflation are nowhere on the government's priority list.

UCC as a Distraction Tactic: Congress

The Congress questioned why, if the BJP government is truly committed to public welfare, it shies away from discussing crucial topics like farmers, unemployed youth, women's safety, and healthcare and education systems.

Shri Singhar emphasized that by hastily pushing sensitive and controversial subjects like UCC, the BJP government is trying to divert attention from the state's real issues. The Congress Legislature Party has clarified that it will continue to strongly raise issues connected to public concerns, both inside and outside the Assembly.

The party reiterated its resolve to continue the fight for the rights and interests of the state's citizens.
