Other LPG Price Changes

The price of a 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder has also been increased by Rs 11. It will now cost Rs 821.50 in Delhi.

Fuel Security Measures

The price increase comes amid efforts to strengthen India's fuel security. This follows supply disruptions related to tensions in West Asia, highlighting the country's reliance on imported energy.

Sujata Sharma, joint secretary in the ministry of petroleum and natural gas, stated that oil marketing companies have been asked to maintain LPG reserves equivalent to at least 30 days of demand.

India imports approximately 90% of its LPG, 65% of its natural gas, and about 40% of its crude oil from the Gulf region.

No Fuel Shortage Concerns

Despite concerns about supply disruptions, the government assures that there is no fuel shortage in the country.

"We have sufficient stock of petrol, diesel, LPG, natural gas and crude inventories are tied up. All our refineries are operating at optimum levels and LPG production is at an all-time high," Sharma said.

Domestic refineries produce around 50,000-52,000 tonnes of LPG daily. The total demand is nearly 72,000 tonnes, with the remaining amount covered by imports.

Crackdown on Illegal Activities

The government has intensified action against hoarding and black marketing of LPG. Officials have conducted over 6,500 raids on LPG operations recently.

These raids have resulted in multiple FIRs and arrests.

Last Month's Increase

Last month, the Centre increased the 19 kg commercial cylinder price by Rs 993 across the country.

What to Watch Next

Monitor how businesses adjust to these increased LPG costs and whether this leads to price adjustments for consumers. Keep an eye on government actions to ensure stable fuel supplies and crack down on illegal activities within the LPG market.
