Cold wave grips Bhopal as CM Mohan Yadav makes surprise night visit to shelter, orders urgent support

As night temperatures dipped sharply in Bhopal over the past few days, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav carried out a sudden late-night inspection of a city night shelter to assess winter arrangements on the ground.

The visit, officials said, was aimed at ensuring that no one is left exposed to the intensifying cold, especially those dependent on public shelter facilities.

Surprise inspection at Rain Basera shelter

The Chief Minister visited the night shelter popularly known as Rain Basera and interacted directly with people staying there, seeking feedback on food, bedding, warmth, and overall safety.

Residents told him they were satisfied with the arrangements, citing adequate meals, sufficient sleeping space, blankets, and the availability of heaters to keep the shelter warm during the night.

Clear instructions to officials

During the visit, Mohan Yadav instructed municipal and district authorities to ensure that no resident faces inconvenience due to the cold, underlining that winter protection must remain a top administrative priority.

Officials were told to maintain uninterrupted facilities, monitor shelters regularly, and respond immediately to any complaint or health issue.

Blankets distributed across key locations

Before reaching the shelter home, the Chief Minister distributed new blankets to destitute and elderly men and women at multiple locations, including Shaurya Dwar near Lal Parade Ground and the Kali Temple area in Talaiya.

Officials said the blanket distribution drive is part of a broader winter relief effort across urban areas as temperatures continue to fall.

Personal interaction and medical assistance

While speaking to residents, the Chief Minister asked about the reasons for their stay. Many said they were on overnight journeys and had halted in Bhopal before continuing onward.

One resident, Subodh Joseph, informed the Chief Minister about severe waist pain and requested medical help. Responding immediately, Mohan Yadav directed the Bhopal Collector and Municipal Commissioner to arrange prompt medical treatment and extend all possible assistance.

With cold conditions intensifying across Madhya Pradesh, the administration is under pressure to prevent cold-related illness and fatalities among the most vulnerable. Night shelter readiness, heating arrangements, and medical access are critical during this period.
