Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Mukesh Kumar Rastogi inspected the mop-up round organized under the National Deworming Campaign in Balrampur. Reaching Primary School Chauhattar Khurd in the Gasdi development block, Dr. Rastogi reviewed the campaign's progress.
He instructed the concerned officials to ensure that no eligible child remains deprived of deworming medicine. During the inspection, the CMO particularly emphasized ensuring the process of administering medicine to missed children through the mop-up round.
“Prevention of worm infection is extremely essential for children's health, and regular intake of deworming medicine is crucial for this,” he stated. This campaign is an integral part of the National Health Mission, aiming to free children across the country from worm infections.
Importance of Hygiene and Awareness
Dr. Rastogi highlighted the need for personal hygiene, regular handwashing, consumption of clean drinking water, and prioritizing clean food to keep children safe from worm infections. He directed officials and staff from the Health and Education departments to conduct the campaign more effectively.
Emphasis was also placed on increasing awareness among parents and children about the importance and benefits of the deworming campaign. He clarified that merely administering medicine is not enough; adopting hygienic habits is equally important.
The primary objective of this campaign is to protect children from the adverse effects of worm infections and ensure their overall health and development. Worm infections can lead to problems like anemia, malnutrition, and stomach pain in children, affecting their learning ability and school attendance. Therefore, administering these medicines once every six months acts as a preventive measure.
Officials have been directed to work with full alacrity at the grassroots level and ensure that the set targets are achieved. The mop-up round specifically focuses on children who missed receiving medicine on the National Deworming Day, ensuring no child is left untreated. Departmental officials and staff were present on this occasion.
