Clash at SRFTI, Students Protest Alleged Provocative Speeches

A confrontation between two groups occurred today, September 27, 2026, on the campus of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) in Kolkata. Students protested against allegedly politically inflammatory speeches during an event, leading to a dispute with event attendees.

The protest at SRFTI was reportedly a response to provocative statements made during an event organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat (ABGP).

Students claimed the statements made during the event were offensive and detrimental to the campus environment. The protest quickly escalated into a confrontation between students and ABGP members, with accusations of physical assault and property damage. Police intervention managed to de-escalate the situation, but tensions persisted.

TMC MLA Alleges Attack, Political Temperatures Rise

In a related development, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Kunal Ghosh has alleged that his car was attacked in and around Kolkata, significantly increasing political tensions. Ghosh reported that his vehicle was targeted with stones, bricks, and other objects.

This incident comes as Ghosh had previously expressed concerns about such attacks. He stated, "Today I was again the victim of an attempted murder. It is only by the grace of God that I am alive." This marks the second alleged attack on Ghosh within 24 hours; his car was previously pelted with eggs and stones in Uttarpara.

Ghosh has blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the incident and questioned the police's inaction. However, the BJP has refuted these allegations, with a party spokesperson offering a different narrative, accusing Ghosh of orchestrating such events for publicity.

This series of events has further intensified the political climate in West Bengal, marked by ongoing accusations between the ruling TMC and the principal opposition party, the BJP.
