Shri Anna Festival Held in Farrukhabad
A district-level Shri Anna Festival and public awareness program was organized at JJR Palace in Farrukhabad, following directives from the administration. The event was part of the 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan' campaign, running from September 17th to October 17th.
The primary objective of the program was to educate the general public about the health benefits of millets. During the event, emphasis was placed on the necessity of citizen cooperation in the construction of a 'Developed India'.
Call for Citizen Contribution to 'Developed India'
Chief Guest, Member of Parliament Mukesh Rajput, stated that to fulfill the collective resolve of making India a developed nation by 2047, every citizen must prioritize environmental conservation, water harvesting, and the use of indigenous products. He also inaugurated exhibitions showcasing various public welfare schemes of the government, aimed at informing citizens about these initiatives.
Health and Economic Significance of Millets
Amritpur MLA Sushil Kumar Shakya highlighted the traditional importance of millets in his address. He stressed the need to promote Shri Anna cultivation in line with the Prime Minister's vision, calling it a demand of the present time. He specifically urged women to incorporate traditional and modern millet-based dishes into their daily meals to foster healthier and stronger families.
Bhojpur MLA Nagendra Singh Rathore appealed to farmers to cultivate millets in their fields. He believes this will not only strengthen society physically and mentally but also improve the economic condition of farmers.
New Income Source for Farmers
Explaining the program's outline, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Arvind Mohan, stated that Farrukhabad district has immense potential for cultivating millets such as 'Sama', 'Kodo', and 'Ragi'. He particularly noted the benefits of these grains for diabetic patients.
He further added that the 'Sama' crop thrives even with limited water, making it a viable option for farmers. Given the increasing market demand for these crops, he expressed confidence that it could lead to a significant rise in farmers' incomes.
Competitions and Awards
Various competitions were organized during the event under the guidance of experts from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra. Successful participants were honored with prizes and certificates.
District Panchayat Administrator Monika Yadav, BJP District President Fatehchandra Verma, along with several departmental officials, public representatives, and a large number of farmers, were present on the occasion.
