October 3, 2025 – Online: Chess.com has announced a strategic partnership with Perplexity, the developer behind the AI-integrated web browser Comet, to bring exciting benefits to the global chess community. The collaboration will feature the 2025 Comet Open, a high-stakes online tournament with a $200,000 prize fund, starting on October 11.

About the Partnership

Perplexity’s Comet browser combines traditional web browsing with a built-in AI personal assistant designed to boost focus, streamline workflows, and enhance exploration. Chess.com users who log in through Comet between October 2 and November 1 will receive 30 days of Chess.com Premium benefits, including:

  • Ad-free experience

  • Unlimited Game Review with advanced analysis

  • Unlimited Puzzles for tactical training

  • Unlimited Lessons from beginner to master levels

  • Play Coach to receive in-game guidance

  • Unlimited Bots with varied playing styles

Users must log in via Comet; guest accounts are not eligible.

2025 Comet Open Details

The Comet Open is open to all players using the Comet browser and will run over two weekends:

  • Qualifiers: October 11-12, eight qualifier arenas; top four from each arena advance

  • Playoff: October 18-19, 32-player double-elimination knockout

  • Time Control: 3+0 throughout the event

Prize Distribution:

  • Titled Players: $150,000 total; $45,000 for first place

  • Untitled Players: $50,000 total; $15,000 for first place
