Arrest Details

The Coimbatore District (Rural) Police arrested S Palanisamy (44), a cable TV operator, on Monday, April 13.

Palanisamy, a resident of Karumathampatti, operates the Rasi cable TV network.

The arrest followed a complaint lodged by Mohanapriya, the deputy secretary of TVK’s Coimbatore suburban east district unit.

Legal Charges

Palanisamy has been booked under various sections of several acts:

• Information Technology Act
• Cinematograph Act
• Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act

According to The Hindu, Palanisamy broadcast the leaked version of Jana Nayagan on the night of April 11.

The pirated version was reportedly shown for 21 minutes after the interval on March 11.

Police Action and Advisory

Police stated that the accused was also telecasting new movies released on OTT platforms.

 

"We have sent a recommendation to cancel the license of the channel," a police officer told Times of India.

 

Following the arrest, police issued a stern advisory to local cable operators and the public.

The advisory warns against sharing and consuming illegal copyrighted content.

Film Release and Previous Arrests

Jana Nayagan's release was initially scheduled for January during Pongal.

However, the release was delayed because the Central Board of Film Certification has not yet certified the film.

The Cyber Crime Police have already arrested six persons in connection with the leaking of Jana Nayagan, and they remain in custody.
