Bumrah, Hardik Likely to Skip New Zealand ODIs as India Prioritises T20 World Cup Readiness

India’s team management is expected to rest senior fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and allrounder Hardik Pandya from the upcoming home One-Day International series against New Zealand, as part of a workload management strategy ahead of the T20 World Cup scheduled for February–March.

According to sources familiar with the selection discussions, both players are likely to be available for the five-match T20 International series against the Kiwis, but will be given a break during the three-match ODI leg, which begins on January 11.

Selection Plans and Scheduling

The Indian squads for both the ODI and T20I series are expected to be finalised in early January, with selectors likely to meet on January 3 or 4. The move to rest Bumrah and Hardik is seen as a precautionary step, given their importance to India’s T20 plans and their recent injury histories.

A senior official indicated that maintaining peak fitness for key players has become a priority with back-to-back international fixtures and a major ICC tournament approaching.
