The Sophie Baek Audition

Hong Kong actress Isabella Wei, celebrated for her portrayal of Posy Li in the hit Netflix series Bridgerton, disclosed that her journey began with auditioning for the lead character, Sophie Baek.

The role of Sophie Baek ultimately went to Australian actress Yerin Ha.

Finding Posy Li

In a conversation with Mumbai Mirror, Wei shared her experience:

"We all auditioned for Sophie. I think everyone auditioned for Sophie first, and then they found the other characters from there."

Despite the initial pursuit of Sophie, Wei found a connection with Posy:

"But I loved Posy. When I first got the briefing for Posy, I think she was described as very plain and kind, or maybe simple. And when I read the script, I found her very funny, sweet and whimsical. So, after auditioning for Posy, I really wanted to play her. And I'm so grateful I got a chance. She's one of my favourite characters that I have ever played."

Navigating Bridgerton's Popularity

Reflecting on her expectations before the series' launch, Wei admitted to entering the experience with limited foresight.

"When I first booked Bridgerton, I had no idea what to expect. I think as we started filming, all of the nerves and all of the anticipation kind of went away because then we were in it and we met everyone and became friends. It became more about life and working together instead of the fact that Bridgerton was this amazing, incredible, high-profile show,"

she stated.

Pre-Release Nerves

Wei also shared her pre-release anxieties.

"Definitely right before the release, I was feeling quite nervous in the sense that I didn't know what was going to happen. Yes, it gets a lot of social attention, but there's also the consideration that it doesn't—people might not like the season or your character. There's a lot of thought behind it. But seeing the reactions now, I've been really happy with everything and it's one of my favourite seasons. So the day it was released, a lot of my anticipation went away because I was like, well, there's no more wondering. We just have to watch and see what will happen."
