Brave Theft at Sakatpur Hanuman Temple; Donation Box and Pooja Items Stolen

Temple Targeted by Thieves

The renowned Hanuman Temple in Sakatpur village, located near the district headquarters, fell victim to thieves last night. Unknown miscreants broke the lock of the main temple gate and absconded with not only the donation box but also valuable brass and copper items used in worship, including brass bells.

This audacious theft has caused deep anger among devotees and villagers in the region. The incident came to light on Thursday morning when the regular priest arrived to perform prayers and discovered the broken main gate lock.

Extensive Looting of Temple Property

Upon entering, he found the donation box missing and several puja items from the sanctum also gone. As news of the theft spread, a large number of villagers and devotees gathered at the temple premises, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

The thieves targeted not just the donation box but also two large brass bells, Aarti lamps, chandeliers, and other copper and brass vessels. These items hold significant religious importance and are valuable in themselves.

Estimated Loss and Devotee Outrage

Initial estimates suggest the total property loss, including the stolen items and cash from the donation box, is around 12,000 to 15,000 rupees. However, the final assessment will be clear only after the police investigation is complete.

The theft at a religious site has sparked intense anger among devotees. Locals point to a lack of adequate security at the temple during the night, which provided an easy opportunity for the thieves.

Police Investigation Underway

Villagers have strongly urged the police administration to take swift action, apprehend the culprits, and recover the stolen goods as soon as possible. Upon receiving information, the victimized priest filed a written complaint at the Cantt police station.

The police have initiated an investigation, conducting a thorough search of the temple premises and surrounding areas for suspicious activities. They are also examining the role of multiple offenders by reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras to identify and apprehend the accused.

Concerns Over Religious Site Security

This incident once again raises serious questions about the security arrangements at temples. Concerns have been voiced multiple times before regarding the safety of religious sites, but such incidents underscore the urgent need for concrete and effective measures in this regard.

Villagers and devotees are now eagerly awaiting the police investigation, hoping for justice and the swift prosecution of those responsible.
