Brave Constable Rescues 5-Year-Old Girl from 45-Foot Well with Oxygen Cylinder

Child Rescued After Falling into Deep Well

Farrukhabad, August 20, 2026 - A five-year-old girl in Ballabh village, Rasidabad, within the tehsil area of Farrukhabad, had a narrow escape on Thursday. While playing, the girl fell into an old, approximately 45-foot deep well located by the roadside after a slab covering it broke.

After a three-hour rescue operation, a brave constable, Sipahi Manoj, risked his life, descending into the well with an oxygen cylinder and mask to safely bring the child out.

The Incident Unfolds

According to information, Soumya, the five-year-old daughter of Pawan Kumar from Jahanpur, had gone to the primary school in Rasidabad Ballabh with her elder sisters, Ananya and Lavanya. After school, she was returning home with her sisters and other village girls: Pooja, Sapna, Gauri, Pari, Annu, and Chhavi.

They stopped near an old well by the roadside where the children were playing on its covering slab. While jumping on the slab, Soumya caused it to break, and the innocent child plunged into the nearly 45-foot deep well.

Villagers' Efforts Prove Futile Amidst Fear of Toxic Gas

The children’s screams of panic alerted nearby villagers who gathered at the scene. Villagers Mukesh and Guddu attempted to descend into the well using a rope but had to abandon their efforts due to the suspected presence of poisonous gas inside.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the villagers immediately alerted the authorities via Dial 112.

Emergency Response and Rescue Operation

Upon receiving the information, the Dial 112 team informed the local police station. Subsequently, Crime Inspector B. Yadav, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Abhishek Verma, Naib Tehsildar Anwar Hussain, Circle Officer (CO) Rajesh Kumar Dwivedi, an ambulance, the fire brigade, and a medical team including doctors Vipin Kumar and Amaresha Kumar arrived at the scene.

The child was visible in the approximately 2.5-foot wide well, but the presence of toxic gas made it extremely difficult for even the fire brigade personnel to enter.

Constable Manoj Showcases Extraordinary Bravery

In this critical situation, Constable Manoj displayed extraordinary courage by attempting to enter the well. His initial attempts were thwarted by suffocation, forcing him to retreat, but he did not lose heart.

On his fourth attempt, Constable Manoj secured an oxygen cylinder to himself and, wearing a mask, successfully descended into the deep well. At the end of this approximately three-hour rescue operation, Constable Manoj safely retrieved the unconscious little Soumya.

As the child was brought out safely, her family, villagers, and administrative officials present at the scene breathed a sigh of relief. The unconscious child was immediately given first aid by the medical team and sent to Lohia Hospital via ambulance.

It was reported that the child's mother, Sapna, works as an ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) worker in the village. Constable Manoj's presence of mind and indomitable courage saved a precious life.
