Bihar Police Arrests 80, Including JD(U) Candidate Anant Singh, in Jan Suraaj Worker’s Murder Case

The Bihar Police have arrested 80 people, including JD(U)’s Mokama candidate Anant Singh, in connection with the murder of Jan Suraaj Party supporter Dular Chand Yadav, officials said on Sunday (November 2, 2025).

Singh and his associates — Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram — were taken into custody during a late-night operation and produced before a Patna court, which remanded them to 14-day judicial custody.

Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma told PTI, “We have registered five FIRs and arrested 80 people, including Anant Singh. More arrests are likely as the investigation continues.”

Yadav, who was campaigning for Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi, died on Thursday in Mokama. His post-mortem revealed cardiorespiratory failure due to injuries to the heart and lungs inflicted by a hard, blunt object, confirming murder, the SSP said.

To maintain law and order, police have deployed 13 companies of Central Armed Police Forces, two STF units, and four Quick Response Teams (QRTs) across the Mokama region.

Singh was arrested from his residence in Barh, nearly 200 km from Patna, following statewide raids.

Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar stated that “strict action will be taken against anyone violating the election code of conduct.”

Reacting to Singh’s arrest, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said, “It was expected… it should have been done earlier. This is jungle raj in Bihar, where murders are happening frequently.”
