A 38-year-old woman who works as a salesperson to support her two children has accused a bus conductor of rape, sexual exploitation, and blackmail in Bhopal’s Ashoka Garden area. Police registered the complaint on Monday after the survivor alleged that the man coerced her into repeated sexual encounters by threatening to release private photos and videos.
Officials said the survivor lost her husband several years ago and had been living independently while raising her children.
How the alleged abuse unfolded
According to investigators, the woman first met the accused in Vidisha about two years ago. The alleged abuse began in 2024, when the man identified by police as Netram reportedly lured her to a hotel in Ashoka Garden on the promise of marriage and initiated a physical relationship.
During that meeting, police say he secretly recorded obscene photographs and videos on his mobile phone. From that point, the survivor alleges, he began threatening to make the content public, using the fear of social stigma to force repeated sexual encounters.
Demand for marriage and new revelations
The case escalated when the woman pressed for marriage, according to the police. She then discovered that the accused was already married and had a criminal history, with nearly five cases previously registered against him.
Officers said the refusal to marry, coupled with continued threats, prompted the survivor to approach the police.
