Biggest Matki Phod Competition in Madhya Pradesh
To celebrate Shri Krishna Janmashtami, Bhopal's Karond will host Madhya Pradesh's largest Matki Phod competition on Sunday, September 6, 2026, starting at 7 PM at Bhagat Singh Chowk. This popular event, held for the past two decades, offers a cash prize of ₹1,00,000 (one lakh rupees) to the winning Govinda team.
A Tradition of Two Decades
The organizing committee's head, BJP State Working Committee member and former District President Shri Sumit Pachauri, stated that the competition has been ongoing for 20 consecutive years and has now established itself as the state's premier Janmashtami Matki Phod competition. He also mentioned that numerous renowned personalities from the film and entertainment industry have graced this platform in previous years.
Special Appearance by Film Stars and Bhajan Singer
To make this year's event even more special, Bollywood actress Ada Sharma (famous for 'Kerala Files'), actor Chunky Pandey, and actor Rajpal Yadav will be present for special performances. Additionally, the renowned Bhajan singer Pramod Tripathi will also be in attendance.
Promoting Social Values
Shri Pachauri highlighted the event's social significance, explaining that the committee aims to connect the youth with religion, promote women's empowerment, and inspire young people to stay away from substance abuse.
Registration Underway for Teams Across the State
Govinda teams from various districts of Madhya Pradesh are actively registering for the competition. Teams from districts including Betul, Chhindwara, Sehore, Jabalpur, Dewas, and Ashta have already registered, and the committee is in contact with other districts as well.
Call for Grand Participation
Rajendra Gupta, a member of the Matki Phod organizing committee, appealed to Govinda groups and citizens from across the state to participate in large numbers to make the Janmashtami celebration historic. This competition is set to elevate the Janmashtami spirit in Bhopal to a new level, offering a confluence of sports, entertainment, and spirituality.
