SIT Formed to Investigate

Bhopal police have established a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the death of a 33-year-old woman at her in-laws' residence in Katara Hills.

The woman's family, based in Noida, has alleged that her death was due to dowry harassment.

An FIR has been registered in connection with the case.

Family Alleges Dowry Harassment

The victim's family alleges dowry harassment, physical assault, and attempts to destroy evidence following her death on May 12th night.

Her brother, an Indian Army major, sought intervention from senior authorities due to perceived delays in registering the FIR.

Legal Proceedings Underway

A Bhopal court granted anticipatory bail to the retired judge on Friday evening.

The hearing on her son's anticipatory bail plea is scheduled for Monday.

SIT Structure and Focus

The SIT is headed by an ACP-rank officer and includes a woman police officer and a member from the cyber cell.

Police are intensifying efforts to locate and arrest the retired judge's son.

An FIR has been registered against both the son and his mother under provisions related to dowry death and cruelty.

"An SIT has been constituted to probe into the matter. All aspects of the case will be investigated. I will be heading the SIT. At the same time, efforts are on to arrest the accused and teams have been deployed," ACP Rajnish Kashyap told TOI.

Forensic Evidence Examined

A post-mortem report from AIIMS Bhopal indicated the woman died due to "antemortem hanging by ligature".

The report also noted multiple simple injuries on her body, possibly caused by blunt force.

Blood, viscera samples, and nail clippings have been preserved for toxicological and DNA analysis.

Notably, the ligature material was "neither present in situ nor submitted" for examination.

Investigative Focus

Police investigators are examining all forensic, digital, and circumstantial evidence.

What to Watch Next

The focus will be on the son's bail hearing scheduled for Monday, and the SIT's ongoing investigation into the forensic evidence and potential links to dowry harassment. The toxicological and DNA reports will likely play a crucial role in determining the course of the investigation.
