Bhopal: Rs 8,300 Fine Under 'Adopt Cleanliness, Chase Away Disease' Campaign

Extensive Cleanliness Drive Conducted

The Bhopal Municipal Corporation conducted a large-scale cleanliness drive across various areas as part of its 'Adopt Cleanliness, Chase Away Disease' campaign. Citizens and businesses were encouraged to maintain hygiene and actively participate in the initiative.

Following the administration of a cleanliness pledge, the municipal staff took action against those not adhering to prescribed standards, levying a total spot fine of Rs 8,300 in 33 cases.

Zone 14 Spearheads Special Cleaning Operations

Under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Mrs. Sanskriti Jain, the staff of Zone No. 14 carried out a special cleanliness campaign in the wards under their jurisdiction. This included road sweeping on main routes and dividers, removal of C&D waste, intensive drain cleaning, and tidying of central and side verges. Collected waste, including papers and wrappers, was transported to the disposal site.

Spot Fines Imposed for Sanitation Violations

The Municipal Health Department imposed spot fines for sanitation breaches, collecting Rs 5,200 from 20 cases of littering in public places. An additional Rs 900 was collected for 9 instances of single-use plastic/polythene usage, Rs 1,000 for a case of spreading C&D waste on roads, Rs 200 for 2 commercial establishments failing to provide separate dustbins, and Rs 1,000 for a case involving waste transportation by a bulk waste generator.

Citizen Engagement and Awareness

During the campaign, municipal staff engaged with citizens and businesses in prominent locations and markets, explaining the importance of cleanliness. They were advised to segregate wet and dry waste and to provide separated waste to waste collectors.

Local residents and business owners also took a pledge to maintain hygiene to remain disease-free. The initiative aims to improve the city's cleanliness standards and raise public awareness about environmental conservation.
