Remembrance of India-Pakistan Partition Tragedy

Bhopal observed 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' on Friday, August 14, 2026, with various programs to commemorate the devastating tragedy of the 1947 India-Pakistan partition. The day included a silent procession and an exhibition detailing the suffering, struggles, and rehabilitation journeys of those displaced by the partition.

A significant part of the event was the honoring of 150 partition victims who resettled in Bhopal from Pakistan's Sindh province. Additionally, 10 surrender letters were presented. The event saw participation from Bhopal MP Shri Alok Sharma, District President Shri Ravindra Yati, District In-charge Shri Jaswant Hada, and Mayor Smt. Malti Rai, alongside a large number of dignitaries, social activists, and school students.

Understanding Partition's Pain and Learning from History

Speaking on the occasion, MP Shri Alok Sharma stated that August 14th is not just a day of celebration, but a day to remember the millions who lost their homes, families, property, and even loved ones in the partition's tragedies. He emphasized that the violence and mass displacement during the partition represent one of the gravest human tragedies in Indian history.

Shri Sharma recalled that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi decided in 2021 to observe August 14th as 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day'. The aim is to make future generations aware of this painful history and its struggles. He clarified that the purpose of this day is not to spread hatred towards anyone, but to learn from history and further strengthen the country's unity and integrity.

Tribute to Victims' Courage and Contribution to Nation Building

District President Shri Ravindra Yati remarked that those who endured the pain of partition showed indomitable courage and resilience in adverse circumstances. They started their lives anew and made significant contributions to nation-building. Shri Yati stressed that today, we must pay homage to their struggles, courage, and dedication to the nation.

Programs were also organized in every Mandal of Bhopal to commemorate this remembrance day.

Ajay Jamwal Pays Homage to Martyrs, Reviews Exhibition

Shri Ajay Jamwal, Regional Organization General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party, also participated in a program organized at the party's state office. He respectfully paid homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the partition, remembering their sacrifice and dedication.

Present at the occasion were BJP State Vice President Shri Shailendra Barua, State Office Secretary Shri Shyam Mahajan, and several other party officials and workers. Shri Jamwal also reviewed an exhibition set up at 10 Number Market in the Arera Mandal, Bhopal. Through the exhibition, he gained insight into the partition's tragedy and the suffering and struggles people faced during that period.

Former MP Shri Alok Sanjar, Arera Mandal President Shri Abhishek Purohit, and Mandal officials were also with him during the exhibition visit.

National Flag Hoisted Under 'Har Ghar Tiranga' Campaign

As part of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, initiated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's call, Regional Organization General Secretary Shri Ajay Jamwal hoisted the national flag, the Tiranga, at his residence in Bhopal. He conveyed a message of dedication to the nation, describing the Tiranga as a symbol of the country's unity, integrity, and pride.

Homage and Pledge for Harmony

At the conclusion of the programs, a silent procession was taken out to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the tragedy of the 1947 partition. On this occasion, a pledge was taken to strengthen the country's unity, integrity, and social harmony.

Malti Rai, District Vice President Shri Abhay Pandit, District General Secretaries Shri Chetan Bhargav and Shri Pradeep Shekhawat, Smt. Gunjan Chouksey, Program Coordinator Shri Rakesh Kukreja, Corporators, district officials, and a large number of distinguished citizens and school students.
