Bhopal: The Bhopal police have apprehended Dharmendra Banjara, accused of assaulting a shopkeeper over payment for tea and snacks, and attacking a B.Tech student. The accused has been sent to jail, with several criminal cases already registered against him.
According to the police, the incident occurred on the night of September 21st, near Khedapati Temple. The accused, Dharmendra Banjara, allegedly refused to pay after consuming tea and snacks at a hotel. When the shopkeeper asked for the money, Banjara reportedly resorted to abusive language and issued death threats.
A case was registered under crime number 484/2026 based on the complaint filed by the shopkeeper. During the investigation, police uncovered another serious offense: the accused had also assaulted a B.Tech student on the same day. Banjara had been absconding since the incident, prompting an active police search.
Arrest Based on Informant Tip
Acting on the directives of senior officials, a police team had been continuously searching for the accused. On October 5th, precise information from an informant led the police to lay a trap and apprehend Dharmendra Banjara, a resident of Avantika Avenue.
Following his arrest, the accused was taken into custody for interrogation. During questioning, Banjara confessed to his involvement in the incident. The police are further investigating his alleged connection to criminal gangs.
Criminal Background and Further Investigation
Initial police investigations reveal that Dharmendra Banjara has a prior record with several criminal cases, including assault and gambling. This is not the first time the accused has been involved in such activities. Given his criminal history, police are investigating whether he is part of a larger syndicate or operates independently.
The arrested accused has been presented in court and subsequently sent to the central jail. Station House Officer Inspector Mahesh Lilhare and his team played a crucial role in this operation. Police are conducting a thorough investigation to uncover any other criminal activities involving the accused.
The area has returned to a state of peace following the arrest, and residents have commended the police's swift action. The police urge the public to report any such incidents immediately to help apprehend criminals.
