Grand Matki Phod Competition Held in Bhopal

On the auspicious occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, Bhopal's Karond district witnessed the grand organization of Madhya Pradesh's largest and most popular Matki Phod competition at Bhagat Singh Chowk on Sunday, September 6, 2026. This event, which has a history of over two decades, saw enthusiastic participation from Govinda troupes hailing from various districts of the state.

Dignitaries Boost Morale of Participants

Several prominent public representatives graced the competition and boosted the morale of the participants. Among them were Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Speaker of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, BJP State In-charge Dr. Mahendra Singh, State Co-in-charge Shri Satish Upadhyay, and former state president and MP Shri Vishnu Dutt Sharma. The winning Govinda team received a cash prize of one lakh rupees.

Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan described the event as historic, stating, "This festival is a vibrant display of faith and joy towards Lord Krishna." He added, "For over five thousand years, Krishna has always been the creator and preserver of the universe." Chouhan praised the enthusiasm and devotion of the people of Bhopal.

Public Affection and Preservation of Culture

Speaker of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly Shri Narendra Singh Tomar remarked that the public's enthusiasm and affection at the Matki Phod festival were remarkable. He stated, "It is the continuous love from the people of this region that enhances the grandeur of this event." Tomar emphasized the necessity of such events for the preservation of religion and culture and extended his congratulations to all.

BJP State In-charge Dr. Mahendra Singh highly praised the festival as a symbol of the state's cultural consciousness and religious faith. He noted, "This festival is about our traditions, devotion, and social unity, which has been organized continuously for 20 years." Dr. Mahendra Singh further commented, "This event further strengthens Madhya Pradesh's rich cultural identity." He filled the assembled crowd with devotion through chants of 'Jai Shri Krishna' and 'Radhe-Radhe'.

Connecting Youth with Sanatan Culture

Former State President of BJP and MP Shri Vishnu Dutt Sharma said that the life of Lord Krishna conveys the message of religion, truth, duty, and dedication to society. He described traditional events like Matki Phod as symbols of rich Sanatan culture and social unity. Shri Sharma added, "Through such events, the younger generation connects with its culture and traditions, which strengthens the spirit of enthusiasm and brotherhood in society." He commended the program organized by Shri Sumit Pachauri in Karond.

Event's Objectives and Future Commitments

Shri Sumit Pachauri, president of the Matki Phod Organizing Committee and a member of the BJP State Working Committee, stated that this event has now gained recognition as Madhya Pradesh's largest Janmashtami Matki Phod competition. He elaborated, "The objective of this competition is not just entertainment, but also to connect the younger generation with religion and culture, convey the message of women empowerment, and inspire youth to stay away from drugs." Shri Pachauri expressed gratitude to everyone for the success of the event and pledged to organize it on an even grander scale in the future.

Artists Captivate Audience, Govinda Troupes from Various Districts

The event was further enhanced by the special presence of Bollywood actress Ada Sharma, actor Chunky Pandey, and actor Rajpal Yadav. The devotional renditions by renowned Bhajan singer Pramod Tripathi also immersed the devotees and attendees in a spiritual atmosphere. The crowd enthusiastically participated in the artists' performances.

Govinda teams from various districts of the state, including Betul, Chhindwara, Sehore, Jabalpur, Dewas, and Ashta, arrived to participate in the competition, showcasing their skill, courage, and team spirit in breaking the matki. Thousands of devotees, spectators, and local residents attended this Matki Phod competition. People from Bhopal as well as surrounding areas also arrived in large numbers to enjoy the competition.
