Extensive Anti-Encroachment Campaign Underway
With the upcoming festive season in mind, the Bhind Municipality has initiated a large-scale anti-encroachment drive across the city's main markets. Led by Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) Virendra Chakravarty, the enforcement squad removed illegal occupations from roads and footpaths in key commercial areas like Sadar Bazaar and Parade Chowraha on Tuesday.
The primary objective of this campaign is to reduce congestion in the markets and streamline traffic management, ensuring easier movement for the general public during festivals. This effort is particularly crucial as market activity intensifies during festive periods, often leading to traffic jams and disorganization.
Market Areas Cleared for Public Access
The campaign commenced in Sadar Bazaar, where roadside stalls were systematically removed, and footpaths were cleared to facilitate pedestrian movement. The municipality's team ensured that public spaces remained free from any commercial encroachments.
Subsequently, the team moved to Parade Chowraha. Here, some shopkeepers had extended their displays beyond the shopfronts, obstructing the road and hindering traffic flow. CMO Chakravarty ordered the immediate removal of these encroachments and the demolition of any temporary structures, sending a clear message that rule violations will not be tolerated.
Basement Violations Under Scrutiny
The scope of action extended to other commercial areas, including a thorough inspection of basements. In the New Abadi area, near Jodhpur Muskaan, basements of ultrasound centers and other commercial establishments on Medical Line were rigorously inspected. Unauthorized use of such basements violates municipal rules and poses significant safety risks, potentially impeding rescue operations during emergencies like fires.
However, upon receiving advance notice of the action, most operators shut down their basements and disappeared, indicating their illicit activities. Municipal officials reiterated that unauthorized or commercial use of basements is extremely dangerous and can invite accidents.
Stern Warning Issued to Traders
CMO Virendra Chakravarty issued a stern warning to shopkeepers and traders. He emphasized that market crowds surge during festivals, and traders must confine their commercial activities within designated limits.
He stressed that any future encroachments or continued unauthorized operation of basements would result in not only hefty fines but also legal action against the concerned shopkeepers.
This warning underscores the municipality's determination to maintain order in the city without tolerating any violations. Plans are in place for regular inspections and monitoring to ensure compliance with these directives.
Ensuring Smooth Traffic and Safety is Top Priority
During this intensive campaign, the municipality's anti-encroachment team, enforcement squad, and local police were fully active. The administration's foremost priority is to ensure smooth public movement and strict adherence to safety standards in anticipation of the festivals.
The drive specifically focused on maintaining traffic flow in congested areas and providing safe passages for pedestrians. This action by the municipality has provided significant relief from encroachment issues in the city's main markets, with promises of continued monitoring and strict enforcement to maintain effective traffic management.
Future Plans and Broader Scope of Action
To ensure long-term impact, the municipality plans to conduct awareness campaigns and educate the public about regulations to prevent future encroachments on public spaces. Additionally, the route from the Housing Colony to the Chowraha and CMO Quarter in the New Abadi area was also cleared of encroachments.
Anti-encroachment actions were also carried out in Pawaiya Gali and the Vardhman Complex area, where haphazardly placed goods had obstructed movement. Stalls that had re-established themselves on Kusbhi College Road were also strictly dispersed, demonstrating the municipality's rapid response mechanism.
These actions have brought considerable relief to residents and commuters in these areas, enabling unimpeded travel. This indicates the municipality's commitment extends beyond main markets to address encroachments across various parts of the city.
Emphasis on Safety and Preventative Measures
CMO Virendra Chakravarty clarified that shopkeepers must keep their goods within their allotted space. He added that extending shops beyond poles or unauthorized basement use directly increases safety risks. This action is aimed not only at ensuring smooth traffic but also at preventing potential accidents in the future.
Such preventive measures highlight the administration's seriousness towards the safety of its citizens. Moving forward, the municipality plans to conduct regular patrols to deter encroachments and will take strict action against violators to maintain an organized and safe city.
