Bhind: 4 School Buses Seized for Safety Norm Violations; Drivers Undergo Emergency Training

Joint Operation Highlights Safety Lapses

The transport department and traffic police in Bhind district have conducted a significant operation to ensure the safety of school vehicles. On Monday, a joint team led by District Transport Officer Rajendra Soni and District Traffic In-charge Raghavendra Bhargav inspected school buses at Mount Litera School and Model School.

During the surprise inspection, extensive deficiencies were found in compliance with Supreme Court-mandated safety standards and other documentation. As a result, four school buses were immediately impounded and are currently held at the Dehat Police Station. The primary objective of this inspection campaign is to make student travel safer.

Thorough Document and Equipment Checks

Officials meticulously examined crucial documents such as bus permits, fitness certificates, pollution control certificates (PUC), insurance, and drivers' licenses along with their character verification. Additionally, the presence and functionality of mandatory safety equipment on the buses were checked. This included first-aid boxes, speed governors, emergency exits, the presence of attendants, and the condition of fire extinguishers.

Emergency Preparedness Training for Drivers

The action extended beyond document verification, with officials providing practical training to bus drivers on handling emergency situations. Drivers were instructed on the operation of fire extinguishers to ensure they can save children's lives in the event of any untoward incident or accident. The training aimed to equip drivers for prompt and effective action during emergencies.

Strict Directives Issued to School Management

District Transport Officer Rajendra Soni emphasized that any negligence concerning children's safety will not be tolerated. He has instructed school management and bus operators to ensure 100% compliance with all safety guidelines issued by the Supreme Court and the state government. All identified shortcomings were ordered to be rectified immediately.

Officials stressed that student safety is their utmost priority and vowed to continue these intensive surprise inspections. The operation also involved Transport Sub-Inspector Ashok Sharma and staff from the RTO office and traffic police.
