Memorandum Submitted to President via District Administration

The district unit of Bhim Army Bharat Ekta Mission held a significant demonstration at the district headquarters in Guna on Thursday, submitting a memorandum addressed to the President. The organization's officials and workers marched in a large rally to the Collectorate, delivering the memorandum through the district administration.

Key Demands Raised for Constitutional Rights and Empowerment

The memorandum highlighted several critical issues concerning the restoration and empowerment of constitutional rights for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC). A key demand focused on enhancing women's representation in Parliament and state legislative assemblies.

Specific Reservation Quotas Advocated

• The organization specifically demanded that 50 percent reservation be ensured separately within the existing quotas for women from SC, ST, and OBC communities.
• Furthermore, Bhim Army stressed the reinstatement of the 70 percent reservation for SC/ST categories in medical colleges located in Kannauj, Ambedkar Nagar, Jalaun, and Saharanpur, which were constructed under the Special Component Plan.

Call for Judicial Appointment System Reforms

The organization strongly urged for an overhaul of the judicial appointment system. They called for the abolition of the collegium system for appointing judges to the higher judiciary, aiming to ensure accountability within the judiciary.

The proposal includes the establishment of a transparent and accountable High Judicial Commission to replace the current system, which Bhim Army believes will lead to fairer and more effective judicial appointments.

Caste Census and Reservation in Promotions Demanded

The memorandum also called for the inclusion of a separate column for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the upcoming caste census to accurately ascertain their population and ensure adequate representation. Additionally, the organization emphasized the need to reintroduce reservation in promotions.

This demand is intended to promote the representation of SC, ST, and OBC communities in government services.

Increased Compensation and Threat of Nationwide Protest

Bhim Army also demanded an increase in the compensation amount for victims under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, to ₹30 lakh. The protesters issued a clear warning that if their significant demands are not met with prompt and positive decisions, the organization will be compelled to launch a widespread protest across the country.
