Bareilly Mandi's Surprise Inspection: Commissioner Hears Farmers' Issues, Orders System Improvements

The Cliff News | Bareilly | August 14, 2026 - In an effort to provide farmers with improved, transparent, and convenient systems for selling their agricultural produce, Shri Kumar Purushottam, Commissioner-cum-Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh State Agricultural Marketing Board, conducted a surprise inspection of the Krishi Upaj Mandi Samiti Bareilly on Friday.

During the inspection, he assessed the various systems operating within the mandi premises and inquired about the facilities being provided to the farmers. Commissioner Purushottam directly engaged with farmers, traders, laborers, and weighmen present at the mandi.

He gathered detailed information regarding the arrival of agricultural produce, the auction process, weighing, payments, and other facilities available in the mandi. While attentively listening to the problems and suggestions of farmers and other mandi stakeholders, Shri Purushottam instructed the concerned officials to ensure the prompt resolution of farmers' issues on a priority basis.

He also directed that systems be developed within the mandi to prevent farmers from facing any kind of trouble in selling their produce.

E-Mandi and Digital Systems Under Scrutiny

Commissioner Shri Purushottam meticulously inspected the functioning of the e-Mandi and e-NAM systems within the mandi premises. He sought information about the e-NAM lab, payment counters, and payment-related arrangements for farmers.

He emphasized the importance of ensuring the effective operation of digital systems to make the process of agricultural produce trading and payments more transparent and convenient. These digital systems play a crucial role in helping farmers get fair prices for their produce and streamlining the payment process.

Focus on Basic Amenities and Sanitation

Alongside the e-Mandi system, the Commissioner also thoroughly inspected the farmers' rest house, canteen, drinking water facilities, sanitation, and information dissemination systems. He directed that essential basic amenities for farmers visiting the mandi be maintained adequately and systematically.

Sanitation and a smooth supply of drinking water make the time spent by farmers in the mandi more comfortable, which is extremely important for their convenience.

Attention to Auction Sheds, Weighbridges, and Quality Improvement

During his inspection, Shri Purushottam observed the auction sheds, CC roads, toilets, and an electronic weighbridge with a capacity of 10 metric tons. He obtained information on the current status of the weighing system and received necessary technical and operational details from the concerned officials.

He also inspected the identified site for the proposed grading and cleaning plant within the mandi premises. He obtained detailed information from the officials regarding these important proposed works aimed at improving the quality of agricultural produce and providing better markets to farmers, and instructed them to take necessary action.

Grading and cleaning facilities for quality produce can help increase farmers' income.

Traffic Management and Infrastructural Development

To facilitate smoother traffic and movement within the mandi, the Commissioner also assessed the need for additional entry and exit routes. He instructed officials regarding the proposed CC work within the mandi premises and the necessary repairs of various buildings and structures.

He stated that essential infrastructural works should be prioritized to ensure smooth movement of farmers and vehicles within the mandi premises. Timely action should be ensured where repairs or improvements are needed, so that the mandi's operations continue without interruption.

Review of Staff Compliance and Security Arrangements

The Commissioner also reviewed the attendance and dress code of the employees and security guards working at the mandi. He instructed officials that the staff deployed in the mandi premises should responsibly discharge their assigned duties. Furthermore, they should maintain a spirit of sensitivity and cooperation in their dealings with farmers and traders.

This ensures a harmonious and professional environment within the mandi, which is beneficial for all stakeholders. This surprise inspection, aimed at understanding the ground reality of the mandi's systems and issuing necessary improvement directives to officials, has also emphasized the need for the mandi administration to make systems more effective.

As per the Commissioner's instructions, the mandi management is now committed to implementing farmer-centric policies and improved facilities. Goyal, Executive Engineer, Shri Anand Yogi, Assistant Engineer, Shri N.C. Jatav, Deputy Engineer, and Mrs. Deepika Dhurve, Mandi Accountant, along with mandi staff.
