Major Breakthrough in Brutal Murder Case
Police in the Bhuta police station area of Bareilly have achieved a significant success in the case of a brutal murder of a young man that occurred three months ago. Acting on an informant's tip, police arrested the main accused, Pankaj Maurya.
The incident came to light on July 17, 2026, when the victim's family filed a complaint alleging that their son had been murdered and his body thrown into a canal. Police had registered a case under the Indian Penal Code sections, with case number 310/2026, and commenced an investigation.
Accused Confesses to Crime
During police interrogation, the accused, Pankaj Maurya, confessed to his crime. He stated that on the night of July 4, while drinking alcohol with the deceased by the canal, an argument erupted over love affairs. The dispute escalated when the accused's involvement with the victim's wife came to light.
According to the accused, the deceased attempted to attack him with a brick. In retaliation, the accused struck the victim repeatedly on the head, face, and chest with an iron rod. After the victim lost consciousness, the accused pushed his body into the canal.
Murder Weapon Recovered
The Bhuta police, with the assistance of the SOG and Surveillance team, apprehended Pankaj Maurya at the Dorria alias Jhaunangla Tirahe intersection at 6:54 PM. An Android phone was also recovered from the accused at the time of his arrest.
Following the accused's confession, police recovered the iron rod used in the murder and a fish-shaped knife. With these recoveries, Section 4/25 of the Arms Act has also been added to the case. The police investigation is ongoing.
Police Investigation Continues
The entire operation involved key roles played by Bhuta Police Station in-charge Ravindra Kumar, Surveillance in-charge Abhishek, SOG II in-charge Amresh Singh, and their respective teams. After completing the legal procedures, the police have presented the accused before the court.
Police stated that further proceedings in the case will continue based on the evidence, and all aspects are being thoroughly investigated.
