Police Apprehend Key Suspect in Petrol Pump Firing

In a significant development, Bareilly police have successfully apprehended Nikhil Kumar, the primary accused in the firing incident that occurred at the Hariyali Petrol Pump in Faridpur police station area on August 26, 2026. The incident involved the accused refusing to pay for petrol and subsequently firing shots before fleeing.

A case was registered on August 27, 2026, following a complaint filed by the informant, Shyam Mohan Saxena. During the investigation, a critical piece of evidence, a mobile phone belonging to the accused, was discovered at the petrol pump. This phone proved to be the most significant lead in the case, allowing police to identify the main accused, Nikhil Kumar, through call detail records (CDR).

Suspect Located and Detained

Acting on the intelligence gathered, the Faridpur police detained Nikhil Kumar on the evening of September 12, 2026, at his residence in Bahraich. Preliminary interrogation saw Nikhil confessing to the crime, admitting that he resorted to criminal activities to fulfill his desires. He also implicated his brother, Arjun Kumar, stating that Arjun was present with him during the incident.

Other individuals named in connection with the incident include Arjun Kumar, Vishal, and Shankar. The police are actively searching for these absconding individuals.

Weapon Recovered Near Scene

Following Nikhil Kumar's confession and at his behest, the police recovered a 315-bore illegal firearm and a spent cartridge from bushes near the petrol pump. The weapon is believed to have been used in the commission of the crime. Originally a resident of Ballia, Nikhil Kumar was residing in Bahraich at the time of his arrest.

Police records indicate that Nikhil Kumar has a prior criminal record, with five cases registered against him in various police stations across Gonda, Bahraich, and Bareilly for theft and violations of the Arms Act.

Police Team and Further Investigation

The operation was conducted by a team comprising Faridpur Station House Officer Radheshyam, Sub-Inspector Shobit Kumar, Head Constable Rajesh Kumar, and Constable Koshindra Kumar. After completing the legal procedures, the accused, Nikhil Kumar, has been presented in court.

Police teams are diligently pursuing leads to apprehend the other fugitives, Arjun Kumar, Vishal, and Shankar, and their swift arrests are anticipated. This successful arrest has garnered positive attention regarding the police's proactive approach in the region.
