Main Accused Apprehended After 18 Months

Bareilly | October 10, 2026 In a significant development, police have finally apprehended the main accused in the acid attack case that occurred in the Aonla police station area of Bareilly in March 2025. The accused, identified as Chandrakesh alias Chandravir, a resident of Tabalpur village under Dholna police station in Kasganj district, was arrested on Friday afternoon around 1:20 PM near the Aril river bridge on the Aonla-Aliganj road.

Love Affair Rivalry Confirmed

The motive behind the brutal attack has been confirmed by police investigations to be a rivalry stemming from a love affair. The first information report (FIR) was registered on March 7, 2025, against 14 named accused and others under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Police have been investigating the case since the incident, and Chandrakesh's name emerged during the investigation.

Technical Surveillance Cracks the Case

The police successfully tracked down Chandrakesh by utilizing surveillance and Call Detail Records (CDR). After gathering crucial technical evidence, the police managed to apprehend the accused. During interrogation, the accused, Chandrakesh, confessed to his crime. He admitted to harboring a deep-seated grudge against the victim's son, Ankush, due to his interactions with a young woman. This animosity led him to meticulously plan and execute the acid attack on Ankush with the help of an accomplice.

Successful Operation Yields Arrest

This action was taken as part of a special operation conducted under the direction of the Senior Superintendent of Police, supervised by the SP South and the Circle Officer of Aonla. Key figures in this significant success include Station House Officer of Bhamora, Kushalpal Singh, Surveillance Officer Abhishek, SOG Second Officer Amaresh Singh, and members of their respective teams. Following his arrest, Chandrakesh was presented before the court after completing the necessary legal procedures. The police are continuing their legal proceedings based on the facts that have emerged in the case.
