Lawyers Protest Slow Police Investigation
Balrampur | August 21, 2026. In a protest against the alleged slow action by the police in a significant matter related to the Advocate Disaster Relief Fund, a group of lawyers, led by Mrigendra Upadhyay, President of the District Youth Association, submitted a memorandum to the newly appointed Superintendent of Police.
The memorandum highlights the delay in the arrest of eight to nine accused named in the First Information Report (FIR) registered approximately two months ago. Mrigendra Upadhyay, also the President of the Youth Bar Association, stated that despite the FIR being lodged, no arrests have been made so far.
Accusations of Police Inaction
Upadhyay alleged that the police are not investigating the matter with the required seriousness and are relying on the lawyers themselves for the investigation. He stated that the police are repeatedly questioning lawyers about the whereabouts of the accused, even though the lawyers are fully cooperating and staying in touch with the investigating officer.
The memorandum further expresses the lawyers' frustration, noting that despite their continuous cooperation, the police have taken no effective steps towards arresting the accused or uncovering other individuals involved. This apathy has caused significant resentment among the legal fraternity.
Demand for Swift Justice
Upadhyay emphasized that the memorandum was submitted in compliance with a resolution passed by the association, which demands immediate action. He stressed that the lawyer community seeks swift justice in this case and expects the Superintendent of Police to personally oversee the proceedings to ensure a fair and prompt investigation.
The memorandum also points out that several other individuals are likely to be identified in connection with this case, and their identification and subsequent arrest are deemed necessary.
