Ballari Violence: Police Book Janardhan Reddy and 10 Others After Fatal Banner Clash, Security Tightened

A case has been registered against Gangavathi MLA and former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy and 10 others following a violent clash over banner installation in Ballari that left a Congress worker dead, police said on Friday.

The incident occurred on the evening of January 1, 2026, near Mr. Reddy’s residence in the Avvambhavi area of Ballari. In response to the killing and subsequent unrest, authorities have deployed heavy police security across sensitive parts of the city to prevent further violence.

FIR Filed in Early Hours

According to police officials, the First Information Report (FIR) was registered at around 1 a.m. on January 2 at Brucepet police station. The complaint was filed by Chanal Shekhar, an associate of Ballari City MLA Nara Bharath Reddy.

Police sources said the case relates to a confrontation that escalated during the installation of political banners, culminating in a fatal assault on a Congress worker. The identity of the deceased has not been officially released by authorities at the time of reporting.

Security Stepped Up Across Ballari

Following back-to-back incidents of violence, senior police officials ordered heightened security measures. Additional personnel have been deployed in and around Avvambhavi and other sensitive localities, with patrolling intensified to deter retaliatory attacks.

Law enforcement authorities said they are closely monitoring the situation and have warned that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to disturb public order.

Political Tensions and Investigation

The clash has underscored ongoing political tensions in the region, particularly around public displays such as banners and hoardings, which have previously triggered disputes. Investigators are examining video footage, witness statements, and forensic evidence to establish individual roles in the incident.

Police officials confirmed that further arrests are possible as the investigation progresses. They also stated that due process will be followed and that the case will be pursued based on evidence collected during the probe.
