Bahraich-Khalilabad Rail Line Project Gains Momentum, ₹1525 Crore Spent
The 240 km Bahraich-Khalilabad rail project is progressing, with ₹1525 crore invested to date out of a total estimated cost of ₹4940 crore.

Rail Project Progresses Towards Completion
The construction of the new 240-kilometer rail line connecting Bahraich to Khalilabad has accelerated. According to the Railway Board, a significant ₹1525 crore has been expended on this crucial project, with the total estimated cost pegged at ₹4940 crore. A budget provision of ₹686 crore has been allocated for the current financial year, 2026-27.
This vital rail link will traverse through areas including Bhinga, Shravasti, Balrampur, Utraula, and Dumariaganj. The project is being advanced in three main sections. Work has commenced on the 54-kilometer stretch between Khalilabad and Bansi, encompassing earth filling and the construction of small and large bridges. The process of building railway stations has also begun on the ground.
Land Acquisition and Station Development Underway
The Railway Board reports that land acquisition is ongoing for the 120-kilometer route between Bansi and Ikauna. Furthermore, land acquisition for the final 66-kilometer section from Ikauna to Bahraich is in an advanced stage.
The Railway Board has emphasized that efforts are being concentrated on expediting the land acquisition process, with the support of the state government, to ensure the project's timely completion.

This new railway line is poised to usher in a new era of transportation for the border and economically underdeveloped regions. Upon completion, the project will significantly ease connectivity for local trade, education, and healthcare services.
