Bagadiya Gang Busted: 17 Thefts Across 5 States, Jewelry Worth ₹20 Lakh Recovered

Inter-state 'Bagadiya Gang' Busted in Mandsaur

Mandsaur Police have achieved a significant success by dismantling the inter-state 'Bagadiya Gang'. Under the direction of Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar Meena, Nharghad Station House Officer Inspector Varun Tiwari and his team arrested two members of the gang.

During preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed to committing over 17 burglaries and thefts in five states. Following the leads provided by the accused, police recovered gold and silver jewelry worth approximately ₹20 lakh, claimed to be a 100% recovery of the stolen property.

Gang Operated with Sophistication

The gang was known for its cunning methods. Instead of directly executing thefts, the members conducted reconnaissance in an area, posing as water sellers or goods vendors. They gathered information about the house structure, occupants' movements, and times when the house was empty.

Subsequently, they would strategically break locks at night, infiltrate the homes, and flee with cash and valuable jewelry. This methodical approach ensured minimal suspicion during their operations.

Investigation Uncovered Extensive Network

The unravelling of this inter-state gang's operations began with the investigation of a theft case registered at Thana Kotwali Mandsaur on July 18, 2026. Unknown miscreants had broken the gate of a house and stolen approximately ₹20,000 in cash and gold and silver jewelry from cupboards. A case under IPC sections 305(A) and 331(4) BNS (Crime No. 465/2026) was registered.

During the investigation, police found clues that suggested the involvement of a larger inter-state gang. Through intensive investigation and interrogation, the links between 17 separate theft incidents were established, revealing the gang's extensive network.

Criminal Network Spans Five States

According to the police, the Bagadiya Gang operated not only in Madhya Pradesh but also extended its criminal activities to states like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Delhi-NCR.

The gang had committed thefts in numerous cities including Indore, Ratlam, Agra, Rajsamand, Nathdwara, Udaipur, Malegaon, Dhulia, Delhi, and Gurugram. Separate cases have been found registered against the accused in various police station jurisdictions across these states.

Notably, the police have also solved significant incidents, such as the theft at the residence of the late former MLA Purohit in Mandsaur, with the arrest of this gang.

Seized Property and Tools

In the police operation, gold and silver jewelry worth approximately ₹20 lakh was recovered from the accused. The police stated that 100% recovery of the stolen goods has been ensured.

Additionally, the tools used to execute the thefts were also seized. These include two 'tommy' bars, an electronic cutter, two pairs of gloves, and a plastic plier, which were used to break locks and bypass security measures.

SP Highlights Emotional Impact of Thefts

At a press conference following the case's resolution, Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar Meena stated that theft incidents not only cause financial loss but also inflict emotional trauma on the victims.

“Recovering stolen goods is a major challenge for the police. We have successfully apprehended this inter-state gang through continuous surveillance, technical investigation, an efficient intelligence network, and tireless efforts,” SP Meena said, commending his team.

He assured the public that the police remain vigilant for their safety and are committed to preventing such crimes.
