Ayodhya Mayor Pledges Support for Priests and Ghat Facilities

Ayodhya Mayor Mahant Girishpati Tripathi has assured the Teerthpurohit society (priests) of comprehensive support following a meeting held on Thursday, August 7, 2026. The discussion, which took place at the Tin Kalash Tiwari Temple, focused on addressing the concerns of priests working at the ghats.

Representatives from the Teerthpurohit community presented their demands, highlighting the need for essential facilities and identification for their colleagues. Mayor Tripathi committed to the formal registration of priests by the municipal corporation and the issuance of identity cards.

Improved Amenities and Coordination Emphasized

The Mayor also pledged to ensure regular cleaning of the ghats and the provision of shaded seating areas with umbrellas to protect priests from sun and rain. These measures aim to enhance the working conditions for the priests.

Mayor Tripathi urged the priests to arrange their traditional seating spots (gaddi/takht) in an organized manner at designated locations. He stressed that close coordination between the municipal corporation and the Teerthpurohit community is vital to prevent any inconvenience for the pilgrims visiting Ayodhya.

Zonal Officer of the Municipal Corporation, Jwala Prasad, was also present at the meeting. Key Teerthpurohit members who attended included Nandkumar Mishra alias Barfi Maharaj, Durga Prasad Pandey, Rajesh Pandey, Ballabhpeeth Pandey, Raju Pandey, Lallu Pandey, Jogendra Prasad, Dayasindhu Pandey, Buchhan Maharaj, Ramnath Pandey, and Rajkumar Pandey, among others.
