Seized Motorcycles Auctioned at Fatehganj Western Police Station

In a significant move to streamline operations and clear space, the Fatehganj Western Police Station premises in Bareilly has auctioned off 34 old motorcycles that had been seized and stored for a considerable period. This disposal process has resulted in a substantial addition of ₹1 lakh 54 thousand 700 to the government treasury.

The entire auction was conducted under the direct supervision of Naib Tehsildar Simran Mathania, CO Highway Devesh Singh, and Station House Officer Praveen Kumar. The auction saw enthusiastic participation from a total of 27 scrap dealers, making the process highly competitive.

Competitive Bidding Drives Revenue

The bidding for the seized vehicles commenced with a minimum reserve price of ₹60,000. However, intense competition among the scrap dealers pushed the final bid significantly higher, culminating at ₹1 lakh 54 thousand 700. The winning bid was placed by Mohammad Ahmed, owner of SK Traders, who has now taken possession of all the vehicles.

Legal Basis and Purpose of the Auction

Station House Officer Praveen Kumar clarified the legal framework behind the auction. He stated that all vehicles included in the sale were seized under Section 207 of the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act. These vehicles had been impounded for various reasons and had accumulated at the police station over time.

The disposal was deemed necessary to vacate the station premises and eliminate clutter. Section 207 of the MV Act permits the auction of seized vehicles if no claims are made within a stipulated period. This procedure was followed meticulously to ensure public land is cleared of abandoned vehicles and government assets are utilized effectively.

Streamlining Premises and Boosting Revenue

This action has greatly assisted in freeing up space within the police station compound, contributing to a more organized environment. The auction process was conducted with utmost transparency, with continuous oversight from the designated officials. Naib Tehsildar Simran Mathania, CO Highway Devesh Singh, and Station House Officer Praveen Kumar were present, along with Lekhpal Aditya Gangwar and other police department officials and staff.

Such auctions not only help in vacating police station premises but also lead to a significant increase in government revenue. The total amount of ₹1 lakh 54 thousand 700 generated from this auction has been deposited into the government account. The local administration has deemed the auction a success in accordance with regulations, viewing it as a positive step towards the regular disposal of such vehicles at police stations. This ensures efficient management of seized vehicles and the utilization of funds raised for public benefit.
