Assam Rifles Jawan Killed in Arunachal Border Attack

An Assam Rifles jawan has been killed and four others sustained injuries in a suspected militant attack that occurred along the India-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh's Changlang district on Tuesday. The incident took place in the early morning hours, when a patrol team from the 21 Assam Rifles was ambushed.

The attack occurred around 6:30 AM near Nampong Nallah, within the Nampong circle. The patrol team was reportedly engaged in an area where border fencing work is underway. Preliminary reports indicate that unknown assailants, suspected to be militants, opened fire on the personnel. Tragically, Havildar Jankhokai Kuki, aged 42, succumbed to his injuries, while four other jawans were wounded.

The injured personnel are currently being evacuated for urgent medical attention. Details regarding the severity of their conditions have not yet been released. Following the attack, security forces have significantly intensified their operations in the region. This heightened activity aims to track down the perpetrators and prevent further incidents along the sensitive border area.

While official confirmation is still pending an official statement from the Assam Rifles, initial intelligence suggests the involvement of militants belonging to the NSCN (K-YA) group. The Changlang district, where the incident occurred, has historically been a sensitive corridor due to the presence and movement of various insurgent groups operating both within India and across the international boundary with Myanmar.

Changlang SP Kirli Padu confirmed that police have received information regarding the attack. The SP has directed the officer-in-charge of the Changlang police station to immediately gather comprehensive details about the incident. "We have received information about the incident that took place along the India-Myanmar border and have asked the OC of Changlang police station to collect information related to it," Padu stated.

The India-Myanmar border in Changlang district remains a critical point of concern for security agencies due to its porous nature and the continuous movement of armed groups. The area's geographical challenges and proximity to active insurgent zones necessitate constant vigilance and robust security measures.
