Demonstration Persists for Increased ASHA Worker Remuneration

FARUKHABAD | October 6, 2026

The protest by ASHA and ASHA Saginni workers in Farrukhabad demanding an increase in their remuneration continued for the sixth consecutive day on Monday. The workers are emphasizing the need for a substantial raise in their pay, commensurate with their responsibilities within the health department and the rising cost of living.

They have issued a warning that if a concrete decision on their demands is not taken promptly, they will continue their work boycott. The ASHA workers highlighted their crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of health services in rural areas. In addition to these duties, they are frequently assigned various additional tasks.

However, despite a continuous rise in inflation, their remuneration has not seen a proportionate increase. They have raised these concerns with departmental officials multiple times, but have yet to receive a positive response.

Memorandum Submitted on Seven-Point Demands

The protesting women submitted a memorandum to the Medical Superintendent of the Community Health Center (CHC). This memorandum urges immediate action not only on increasing their remuneration but also on their other demands.

The organization has decided on a collective work boycott from October 1 to October 15. The workers have made it clear that if no concrete steps are taken towards fulfilling their demands within this period, they will escalate their protest further.

The demonstration saw the participation of a large number of ASHA workers and ASHA Saginni, including Block President Shipra Saxena, Gangotri, Karishma, Sunita, Sheetla, Reema, Ranjana Devi, and Ramkumari. All unanimously reiterated their resolve to continue their movement until their demands are fully met.
