Operation Trashi-1: A Multi-Agency Success
A joint operation, codenamed 'Operation Trashi-1', involving the Indian Army, police force, and CRPF, culminated in the elimination of three JeM terrorists in the Chhatroo belt of Kishtwar. Details of the Counter-Terrorism Operation
IGP Jammu B S Tuti stated that the operation targeted the 'Israel Group', a terror group of seven hardcore terrorists who infiltrated Indian territory in 2024. Security forces engaged them in 17 encounters over one-and-a-half years. Three terrorists were killed in April 2025.
"Yesterday was the culmination of this year-and-a-half-long operation," Tuti said, referring to the killing of JeM commander Saifullah. While the leadership has been neutralized, approximately 20 foreign terrorists are believed to be active in the Jammu region.
Strategic Coordination and Execution
Maj Gen APS Bal emphasized the seamless coordination between different agencies. He highlighted the deployment of all available resources, "in a joint and integrated manner, from a dog to a drone.". Encounters occurred on January 18, 22, 25, 31, February 4, and 8.
Soldiers faced harsh terrain and weather, including snowfall and landslides. Teams were rotated to prevent fatigue, with some inserted by helicopter and others through trekking. The first breakthrough was the killing of commander’s aide Adil on February 4.
Real-time surveillance drones and night vision equipment were used to track and contain terrorist movement. War-like stores, including three AK-47 rifles, were recovered. The operation began on Jan 14 in Kishtwar, with first contact established on Jan 18 when the terrorists' hideout was busted.
