Apple’s MacBook Pro and MacBook Air to Get M5 Chipsets: Launch Expected Late 2025

September is almost over, and with the new iPhones already launched, Apple is likely to shift its focus to other devices, particularly MacBooks. The tech giant is expected to introduce its next-generation MacBook lineup, including the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, powered by the new M5 series of chipsets. These M5 chips will succeed the current M4 lineup, which powers devices like the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, and more. Apple MacBook models with M5 chips are expected to arrive next year.

However, as with previous years, the launch may not happen in October. Popular tech journalist Mark Gurman has hinted that Apple might delay the announcement. According to Gurman, while Apple is actively working on these next-gen MacBooks, supply chain issues could push back their release. The models are expected to enter mass production soon but are unlikely to be available this October.

Gurman mentions that the launch window for these devices is “between the end of this year and the first quarter of next year.” The upcoming MacBook Pro models could be codenamed J714 and J716, while the MacBook Air with M5 chips could be J813 and J815.

In addition to the MacBooks, Apple is also reportedly planning to introduce new displays. The iPhone 17e is expected to follow in the first half of next year.

Details on upgrades for the M5 MacBooks remain scarce, though performance improvements are expected as part of this generational leap over the M4 chip. Design changes are likely to be minimal, with Apple reserving major redesigns for the M6 lineup.
