Itarsi, Madhya Pradesh | September 3, 2026 – A case of negligence has surfaced during an encroachment removal campaign conducted by the municipality in Itarsi, Madhya Pradesh. While old stalls were being removed from the lane near Govardhan Bakery, a stall situated adjacent to one being dismantled was inadvertently damaged.

This incident has raised questions about the administration's operational methods. The affected stall owner is reportedly unhappy due to the lack of assurance regarding compensation for the damages incurred.

Incident Details and Damage

According to information received, the municipality's encroachment team was engaged in removing several old carts and stalls today. During the process of removing one such stall, an adjacent stall suffered unexpected damage.

The damaged stall was not on the list for removal. Despite this, it sustained a significant hole and other visible damage, indicating a lapse in execution.

Demand for Compensation and Questions for Administration

In response to the incident, lawyer Advocate Siddharth Mahesh Arya expressed concern and demanded that the administration establish accountability. He stated that while encroachment removal is a necessary government action with no inherent objection, damaging the property of an innocent individual while removing another is a serious oversight.

“Who will take responsibility for this damage? This question remains unanswered,” Advocate Arya remarked.

Advocate Arya further clarified that the damaged stall was previously operated in the 'Chowpati' area of Sindhi Colony. It was relocated to the lane near Govardhan Bakery after the original location was cleared. The stall owner is distressed by this sudden damage.

Urgent Need for Investigation and Fair Compensation

Advocate Siddharth Mahesh Arya has urged the municipal administration to take immediate cognizance of the incident and conduct a thorough investigation. He demands that if the investigation confirms the damage occurred during the municipality's action, the responsible officials be held accountable.

Furthermore, he insists that the stall owner be provided with fair compensation for the losses suffered. Advocate Arya emphasized, “Actions should be taken according to the rules, but if the property of an innocent person is damaged, accountability must be fixed.” This statement highlights the need for greater caution in administrative actions and the assurance of protection for the public's property.
